Our Strategy
Housing First + Coalition Building + Accountability + Transparency
Housing First
The driving force of the Trans Housing Coalition's work is Housing First, a method based on the notion that housing is a human right and that chronically homeless people deserve to be offered housing without needing first to satisfy any conditions such as sobriety – and then should be given the wraparound services needed in order to stay in housing and thrive in their lives.
Housing First as a method was developed in the early 90’s and has since spread to dozens of cities in the US and other countries. Research has shown that upwards of 80 percent of chronically homeless people have entered and stayed in independent housing using this approach.
Coalition Building
The Trans Housing Coalition will build relationships with Atlanta metro area organizations that already provide much-needed services, such as STI testing treatment, therapy, addiction services, gender affirmative health services, and job training. We also believe in paying Trans people for their labor!
Further, we will create a rapid response fund that will be used to bolster the capacity of fellow organizations in the Atlanta area through small grants and provide direct support to Trans people facing housing insecurity in Atlanta.
Accountability
We acknowledge that we’ve been given an amazing opportunity to increase resources available to chronically homeless Trans people in Atlanta. We take full ownership of our work and recognize that it is our duty to rigorously document, evaluate, and report on our outcomes to clients, community partners, donors and the broader public.
Transparency
As a new organization, we are working to ensure that our clients, community partners, and donors can be assured that we are directly supporting Trans communities. We will make available our annual IRS Form 990 and any organizational audits conducted to be transparent about how funds are allocated and disbursed.
